Participating in an Event

Most of our events are single day sessions.

Our usual day is Sunday and we usually start at Noon, begin to wrap up by 5 and are done by 6.

People can arrive up to an hour early to check in, set up and do whatever prep they need such as getting into costume and makeup.

After the event, we will ask for volunteers to clean up and put away our props and other materials.

We will always release a schedule of the exact times for all of this on the Event posted to our Facebook page HERE

Before the Event

  • Know your role. You will be sent a character briefing a week before the event. Make sure that you read and understand it. Email the staff with any questions. It is critical that you know who you are playing and what is expected of you.

  • Know the game. This site contains everything you will need. Make sure you are familiar with any rules that apply to you.

  • Know the setting. The Gazetteer section has the most up to date information about the Gateway setting.

Support characters don’t have to concern themselves with much beyond what their role is.

Plot characters will get the most out of being familiar with the setting. The better you understand the story elements that relate to the plots you are involved in the better time you will have.

Event Day

When you arrive, the first thing you should do is Check In with the Archivist. There will be an area specifically for doing this.

Once there, familiarize yourself with the space. You should know where the bathrooms and the out of characters areas are and if you are a smoker, where the designated smoking/vaping area is.

We will announce when the day's events are wrapping up. Usually a Herald will proclaim "the Gateway will close in one hour".

When the session is over, check out with the Archivist. This is very important. If you have to leave early for some reason tell someone from the Staff so they can get you checked out and squared away.

One you are checked out please pitch in to put things away and clean up. Begin with whatever you brought and then help the Staff with the rest.

Welcome to our Fellowship

Have a great time! We look forward to getting to know you.

One last time -

  • Stay in costume and in character in the live action areas.

  • Use the Out of Character gesture to drop character in the live action area.

  • Make use of the Guides when you need something explained.

  • Pursue whatever plots and subplots you choose during your time with us.

  • Last but not least - we follow Wheaton's Law - Don't be a Dick.
